  • Gram-negative bacteria known as methanotrophs are a varied group that are connected to other Proteobacteria species. Under both oxic and anoxic environments, methanotrophic microbes oxidize methane to produce energy.
  • When the methane concentration is between 5,000 and 10,000 parts per million (ppm), they thrive. The bacterial strain Methylotuvimicrobium buryatense 5GB1C consumes methane, which has an explosive power over carbon dioxide (CO2) of over 85 times.
  • At 500 ppm, this bacteria performed at its best. Additional research revealed that this strain continued to grow effectively at 200 ppm. It can thrive in environments with low methane levels of 200 to 1,000 ppm. This strain is a strong contender for methane removal technology because of these characteristics.
  • After eating methane, bacteria make biomass. In aquaculture, this biomass can be used as food. The bacteria can produce 0.78 tonnes of dry-weight methane for every tonne of methane they consume.

Maitri Setu : India-Bangladesh

News: The Maitri Setu, a bridge of friendship between India and Bangladesh, is soon to open for business.

  • The Feni River, which runs between the Bangladeshi border in Tripura and the Indian border, has been covered by Maitri Setu.
  • It connects Ramgarh in Bangladesh with Sabroom in Tripura over a distance of 1.9 kilometres.

Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (LUPEX) : India And Japan

News: The Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (LUPEX) is being carried out in collaboration by the space agencies of India and Japan.

  • The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are working together on the Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (LUPEX).
  • In 2025, the mission is expected to take off. A rover and lander will be used by LUPEX to investigate the viability of setting up a base on the Moon, the presence of water ice, and surface exploration technology.
  • The rover and lander are being developed by JAXA and ISRO, respectively. Along with instruments from ISRO and JAXA, the rover will also have equipment from NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA).

Multiple equipment have been proposed for the LUPEX mission by the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), an autonomous division of the Department of Space located in Ahmedabad, primarily to conduct measurements on the surface and subsurface close to the permanently shadowed polar area of the Moon.
