Senkakau Islands
News: A China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel has recently been travelling in Japan’s territorial seas near the Senkaku Islands, according to a Japan Coast Guard (JCG) source. This comes amid escalating tensions in the Indo-Pacific area.
The Senkaku Islands are a collection of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea.
It lies roughly 120 nautical miles northeast of the island of Taiwan and 90 nautical miles north of the Yaeyama Islands in the Okinawa Prefecture of Japan.
Other observers also refer to them as the Pinnacle Islands, the Diaoyu Islands, and the Diaoyutai Islands in Taiwan.
The islands include Uotsuri, Kuba, Taisho, Kitakojima, Minamikojima, Tobise, Okinokitaiwa, and Okinominamiiwa. Taisho Island is also known as Kumeakashima Island.
Japan, China, and Taiwan are all involved in a territorial dispute over the islands.
