Bihan Mela : Odisha

News: In the Nayagarh area of Odisha, the Kondh tribe celebrates Bihan Mela.

Farmers take part in the Bihan Mela, often known as the seed festival.

As soon as farmers have finished harvesting the Kharif crops, which comprise both hybrid and native kinds of paddy, millets, maize, and sorghum, preparations start.

Women are in charge of organising this festival, and they meticulously gather seeds from native species and preserve them in earthen jars.

They dress the pots in red and white patterns on a specific day in December, put them in a bamboo basket, and carry the basket to the village where the fair is being held.

Kui and Kuvi are the languages of this tribal people.

These are Dravidian languages and Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada are very similar to them.

The Oriya and Telugu scripts are employed to write Kui and Kuvi respectively because the language has no native writing system.
