News: The “Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2022,” published by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, shows a growth in India’s production of milk, eggs, and meat.

Livestock’s contribution to the agricultural sector has been steadily improving, indicating its growing significance for the national economy.

India continued to be the world’s greatest milk producer in 2021–2022, with a total production of 221.06 million tonnes.

Production was up 5.29 percent from the previous year.

Native cattle produce 10.35% of the nation’s total milk production, while nondescript cattle and nondescript buffaloes account for 9.82% and 13.49%, respectively, of the total.

Rajasthan (15.05%), Uttar Pradesh (14.93%), Madhya Pradesh (8.06%), Gujarat (7.56%), and Andhra Pradesh (6.97%) are the top five states in terms of milk production.

The overall number of eggs produced was 129.60 billion, which is 6.19% more than the previous year.

With a combined contribution of 64.56%, the top five egg-producing States in the nation are Andhra Pradesh (20.41%), Tamil Nadu (16.08%), Telangana (12.86%), West Bengal (8.84%), and Karnataka (6.38%).

9.29 million tonnes of meat were produced nationwide in 2017, an increase of 5.62% from the year before.

51.44% of the overall output of meat comes from the production of poultry.

Maharashtra (12.25%), Uttar Pradesh (12.14%), West Bengal (11.63%), Andhra Pradesh (11.04%), and Telangana (10.82%) are the top five States in terms of meat production. They produce 57.86% of the nation’s total meat production together.

The country produced 33.13 thousand tonnes of wool overall in 2021–2022—a 10.30% decrease from the previous year.

Rajasthan (45.91%), Jammu and Kashmir (23.19%), Gujarat (6.12%), Maharashtra (4.78%), and Himachal Pradesh (4.33%) are the top five states in terms of wool production.
