India’s First Indigenous Quadruped Robot And Exoskeleton
News: As part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Hyderabad-based Svaya Robotics has created India’s first indigenous quadruped (four-legged) robot and exoskeleton for the defence industry.
As technology demonstrators with their design inputs, the indigenous robots and wearable exoskeletons were created by Hyderabad-based Svaya Robotics in partnership with the DRDO Labs, Research and Development Establishment (R&DE), Pune, and the Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory (DEBEL).
Both are dual-purpose robots with a wide range of industrial and medical applications.
Robots with four legs known as quadrupeds can traverse uneven and difficult terrain by walking or running.
The robots can walk beside the soldier and carry a burden of 25 kg.
It was designed to allow remote reconnaissance and inspection in unstructured terrains, which are otherwise dangerous for people to operate in.
Exoskeleton is created to accommodate the anthropometry of Indian soldiers and increase soldier power for long-distance trekking.
When worn by warriors, these dynamic exoskeletons allow them to lift huge loads without exerting much effort.
