Maternal Mortality Report

News: 800 women worldwide will die from pregnancy- and childbirth-related avoidable causes each day in 2020.

 

Reduce maternal mortality to less than 70 deaths per 100 000 live births by 2030, according to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 (target 3.1).

The United Nations Maternal Mortality Estimate Inter-Agency Group (MMEIG), which is made up of WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, the WB Group, and the UNDESA/Population Division, has released the report (2000 to 2020).

According to the Registrar General of India’s (RGI) Sample Registration System (SRS) report, India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) decreased from 130 per 100,000 live births in 2014–16 to 113 per 100,000 live births in 2016–18.

The anticipated global MMR in 2020—down from 227 in 2015 and 339 in 2000—was 223 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births, a decrease of one-third (34.3%) over the course of the entire 20-year span.
