Global Climate Resilience Fund-50 million USD for women

News: Hillary Clinton attended the 50th anniversary celebration of SEWA while she was in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Self Employed Women Association is the acronym. Ela Bhatt, a late campaigner, started it. Mrs. Clinton announced 50 million USD for women in the area during the event. The money will be used to combat climate change.

 

  • The primary purpose of the fund will be to combat heat waves in the area. Due to heat waves, the temperature in the area can occasionally reach 60 degrees Celsius. Typically, it takes place in May and June. Both the frequency and the severity of heat waves have been rising recently across the nation. There were 413 days with a heat wave from 1981 to 1990. There were 600 heat wave days nationwide between 2011 and 2020. As a result of climate change, there are more days with high temperatures.
  • When the temperature in the plains rises above 40 degrees Celsius and when it rises by 30 degrees Celsius in the mountainous region, the IMD announces heat waves.
  • Self-Employed Women Association (SEWA). It is a union that supports female independent contractors and low-wage female workers. In 1972, it was founded.
