Jupiter becomes planet with most moons
News: The largest planet in the solar system is Jupiter. According to researchers, Saturn had the most moons overall. So far, 82 moons have been found orbiting Saturn. Jupiter, on the other hand, was thought to have 80 moons. But the most recent research showed that Jupiter has 12 additional moons. The number of Jupiter’s moons rose to 92 as a result. Jupiter now has the most moons.
- The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory discovered the 12 new moons around Jupiter.
- Nine of the 12 moons that have been found are far-off.
- These nine moons orbit Jupiter in 550 days.
- Additionally, the nine moons found are tiny
- These nine moons orbit in reverse. They orbit in the opposite direction to how Jupiter rotates.
- Jupiter’s inner moons orbit in a retrograde direction. They rotate in the same direction as Jupiter, in other words.
- The retrograde moon is farther away, whereas the prograde moons are closer to the planet. Prograde moons are always more challenging to see than retrograde moons. This is because the moons are hidden by the enormous light that the planet scatters. Future planetary expeditions should focus on the recently identified prograde moons. In 2024, the European Space Agency will launch its JUICE mission.
