- You purchase the savings certificate for a set sum. Let’s say you spent Rs. 50,000. A certificate will now be issued by the GoI or its representative, which may be a bank or the post office, as a receipt for your funds.
- This fixed deposit of 50,000 rupees will now be used. Savings certificate plans always offer better interest rates than the standard fixed deposits you can open at any other Indian bank, though. For instance, the National Savings Certificate programme offers 7% interest. The post office is where you can get this certificate. These savings certificate programmes’ only flaw is that you cannot split the deposit in half.
