Bijli Utsav by REC

Context: ‘Bijli Utsav’ was organised by REC Ltd in Gujarat as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

About Bijli Utsav:

  • Utility representatives will give presentations on the consumer rights associated with electricity, its advantages, the difficulties associated with electrifying rural locations, and how access to electricity enhances quality of life.
  • Nukkad Nataks were performed, with the participation of the locals and young people.
  • LED lights are given out as prizes to victors.

REC Ltd:

  • It is an NBFC that focuses on India’s Power Sector Financing and Development.
  • It falls under the Ministry of Power as a Maharatna company.
  • It was founded in 1969 and offers funding to state governments, central/state utilities, independent power producers, rural electric cooperatives, and private sector utilities.
  • It serves as a Nodal Agency for the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGAYA), Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), and National Electricity Fund programmes of the Indian government (NEF).
  • In India, every fourth light is lit thanks to financing from REC.
