8800 FPOs Set Up Across India
Why in the News?
- Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the establishment of around 8,800 Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs) against the target of 10,000.

Benefits of FPOs:
- Support to Farmers: Provides access to improved technology, credit, better inputs, and more markets.
- Quality Incentive: Encourages the production of better quality commodities.
About Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO):
- Definition: A legal entity formed by primary producers such as farmers, milk producers, fishermen, weavers, rural artisans, and craftsmen.
- Membership: Primarily consists of farmers.
- Registration Options: Can be registered as:
- Cooperatives (under the Cooperative Societies Act of respective States)
- Farmer Producer Companies (under the Companies Act, 2013)
- Societies (under the Society Registration Act, 1860)
