70th Anniversary Of The Washington Declaration
News: The Washington Declaration’s 70th anniversary was honoured.
The Washington Declaration is a security partnership between the US and the ROK.
The U.S.-ROK Alliance celebrated its 70th anniversary on April 26, 2023.
The Alliance pledges to participate in more in-depth, collaborative decision-making on nuclear deterrent, particularly through improved communication and information exchange regarding the region’s and the ROK’s developing nuclear threats.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) poses a threat to the non-proliferation regime, therefore the two Presidents announced the formation of a new Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) to improve extended deterrence, debate nuclear and strategic planning, and handle this threat.
The Alliance will endeavour to increase collaborative exercises and training activities on the use of nuclear deterrence on the Korean Peninsula and enable joint execution and preparation for ROK conventional support to U.S. nuclear operations in an emergency.
To deepen our shared approach to preparation for nuclear emergencies, the Alliance has launched a new bilateral, interagency table-top simulation in accordance with the Presidents’ commitments.
