5g refers to the 5^th generation of broadband cellular networks which was started by telecom companies from 2019. There is an estimate that 1.7 billion subscribers will be there worldwide by 2025. The download speed offered in 5g may be upto 10 gigabits per second.

• According to a recent survey an estimate of 26% mobile subscribers will be using 5g in India by 2026
• The 5g trial spectrum allocations have already been made to Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea.
• The timing of introduction of 5g could not have been better because, internet is being used for various purposes.
• The increased usage comes from sectors like digital payments, consultation, education sector
• With employees opting for work-from-home option higher data speeds will act as a boon to the economy
• The smartphone market will also expand along with this
• The initiatives like Digital India, Cashless Economy, E-Banking will also witness a growth with introduction of this technology
• It is estimated that at least 4 crore people will subscribe for 5g service within the first year of its introduction
