2nd North Sea Summit
News: Nine European nations have gathered for a meeting to promote the installation of offshore wind turbines in the North Sea, making it the continent’s greatest green energy hub.
Belgium’s Ostend hosted the summit.
7 EU nations are represented by the participants: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.
Norway and the United Kingdom are the only two non-EU nations.
The North Sea intends to become the “largest green energy centre in Europe” by accelerating the building of offshore wind farms.
By 2030, the goal is to have 120 GW of offshore wind energy capacity, and by 2050, 300 GW.
Esbjerg Declaration was adopted during the first meeting in 2022 and was signed by Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands.
A new connection between a Dutch offshore wind farm and the UK was announced by the Netherlands and the UK.
