22nd Law Commission : Extended

News: The 22nd Law Commission’s mandate was recently extended by 1.5 years by the Union Cabinet.

 

On February 21, 2020, the 22nd law panel was established for a three-year term, and on November 9, 2022, Judge Rituraj Awasthi (retd) became the panel’s chairperson.

The Government of India occasionally creates the Law Commission of India, which is a non-statutory organisation.

It serves as an advisory council to the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Lord Macaulay served as the chairman of the first Law Commission, which was constituted in 1834 by the Charter Act of 1833 during the British Raj.

The first independent Law Commission was established in 1955.
