●First State In India To Have Organized Cultivation Of Mulethi : Himachal Pradesh

News: The commercial cultivation of licorice (Mulethi) has only recently started in Himachal Pradesh, making it the first state in India to have organised Mulethi agriculture.

 

  • Mulethi, also referred to as licorice, is a perennial shrub with a sweet flavour.
  • Named after a plant: Glycyrrhiza glabra
  • The presence of glycyrrhizin, which is 50 times sweeter than sucrose, gives the roots a sweet flavour.
  • It has long been recognised and utilised in Ayurvedic medicine for regeneration (known as “Yashtimadhu” in Ayurveda).
